Château Les Granges
The estate belongs to the Barrier family since 1850, when the phylloxera destroyed their entire vineyard. Robert Barriere, the grandfather of the present owner, is the first president of the Sauveterre winery. Then comes the frost of 1956 where all the vines were replanted again. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are worked in a reasoned way, without chemical fertilizers in order to perpetuate the tradition of the ancestors, giving a fine wine, fruity and colourful.
Seemingly endless sunshine resulted in an unusually early, magnificent harvest. Grape harvesters going to bathe in the Marne in the evening… Behind these bucolic images was hidden a more harsh reality however: vinegrowers worked hard throughout the year harvesting grapes which they only knew at the last minute if they would be able to sell. Following the 1947 grapes harvest, three of them were no longer prepared to accept this permanent uncertainty and decided to pool their expertise in order to make and sell wines. On 26 February 1948, they created the "Coopérative vinicole de Mancy - Champagne ESTERLIN"
